LIFE IN DEATH

Palliative Care Australia’s Life in Death art competition is their most recent engagement with art as a vehicle to broaden the community conversation about palliative care. I was fortunate to be selected as a finalist.

As a physiotherapist working in palliative care I had heard of and met people who wanted to lie next to their partner of 50 years as they were dying, not have a bed-rail shoved between them; and of children who wanted to climb into a bed to sleep with their dying mum or dad.

That thought will remain with me forever, and it’s what inspired my entry ’til death. The power of touch is so deeply embedded in life that it’s little wonder this need emerges at the end of life.
